How long until my piercing heal?

I got my ears pierced when I was younger, but I wasn't allows to wear earrings in school, so the holes closed up. This morning, my friend reopened the holes. I know then when the piercing is done the first time, you have to wait 6-9 weeks before changing earrings. Do I have to wait that long or, since they were reopened, can I just wait a couple of weeks?
