Which phrase psychologically influences purchases better? Half off sale, or 50% off?

I am designing coupons for a company. I know that some phrases have higher psychological influence on complete purchases than others. For example .99 sells better than .00. So has anyone done research on using the phrase "half-off" versus "50% off?" I can't decide which coupon to distribute.
