What would happen to Earth if the moon wasn't there?

I read that the Moon is slowly moving away from earth. How would this effect life on earth? I know we wouldn't have as dramatic high tides and low tides, because with the gravitational force decreasing, it wouldn't effect the water as much. Anything else?
